TLB Training Alberton
CETA-Accredited Backhoe Loader Operator Certificate at Our Germiston Campus

United Training Centre trains Alberton job-seekers for their CETA-accredited TLB Operator certificate at our Germiston campus — a short drive from anywhere in Alberton. The 1-week course costs R3,500, follows SAQA Unit Standard 262727 (Operate a Backhoe/Loader, NQF Level 2), and results in a certificate recognised across Alberton’s industrial, engineering and logistics employers.

Alrode continues to expand as one of Gauteng’s most established heavy industrial zones, with new industrial complexes and warehousing developments emerging to meet demand for business space, including the growing Alrode South extension. Every new facility built on this expanding industrial footprint requires certified TLB operators for site preparation, trenching and general earthworks.

TLB vs Excavator — Which Certificate Do You Actually Need?

🚜 TRACTOR LOADER BACKHOE (TLB)

  • Best for: Trenching, loading, backfilling and general site work at moderate depths
  • Versatility: Front loader AND rear backhoe in one machine
  • Common Alberton use: New warehouse and industrial complex site preparation across Alrode and Alrode South
  • Certificate: SAQA Unit Standard 262727 (CETA), NQF Level 2, 15 credits
  • 🏗️ EXCAVATOR

  • Best for: Deeper, larger-scale digging and bulk excavation
  • Versatility: Digging and slewing only, but far greater depth and reach
  • Common Alberton use: Larger industrial and manufacturing facility foundation work
  • Certificate: SAQA Unit Standard 262744 (CETA), NQF Level 2, 15 credits
  • WHICH ONE DO YOU NEED?

If your work is general site tasks, loading and moderate trenching — a TLB covers it. If your work is primarily deep or bulk excavation — you need the excavator certificate. Many Alberton civil and industrial contractors need both; you can complete TLB Training and Excavator Training back to back at our Germiston campus.

The OHS Act’s Driven Machinery Regulations require all TLB operators to hold a formal Certificate of Competency aligned to SAQA Unit Standard 262727 before operating a TLB on any site.

    🏗️ ALRODE'S CONTINUED INDUSTRIAL EXPANSION

New industrial complexes continue to emerge in Alrode to meet high demand for business space, and the Alrode South extension is actively developing as a strategic hub for manufacturing, engineering and warehousing — all requiring certified TLB operators for site preparation.

🍺 SAB'S BREWERY EXPANSION AND FACILITY MAINTENANCE

Facility maintenance and infrastructure work at SAB’s recently expanded Alrode brewery requires certified TLB operators for trenching and general site earthworks.

🚢 CONTAINER DEPOT AND LOGISTICS FACILITY DEVELOPMENT

New warehousing and distribution centre construction for Alrode’s logistics operators — including Transnet, Bidvest and Imperial Logistics-linked developments — requires certified TLB operators for site preparation and trenching for services.

🏭 STEEL FABRICATION AND AUTOMOTIVE ASSEMBLY

Alrode’s steel fabrication and automotive assembly firms require TLB operators for general site work, trenching for services and material handling support.

  • What Alberton Students Say About TLB Training at United Training Centre

"I was doing general labour for a civil contractor building a new warehouse in Alrode South. When the contract expanded, they needed a second certified TLB operator. Germiston was a short drive from Alberton, so I commuted daily. I passed my assessment on Friday and was back on site with my CETA certificate the following Monday."
