Mining Training Courses Namibia
Accredited Mine Operator and Safety Certificates for Namibia Workers 2026
United Training Centre in Nelspruit, South Africa offers accredited mining training courses for workers from Namibia — covering excavator operator, dump truck operator, motor grader operator, safety officer and first aid certification. All courses result in South African Department of Labour Certificates of Competency, recognised by Husab Mine (Swakop Uranium), Rössing Uranium, Langer Heinrich (Paladin Energy), B2Gold Otjikoto, Navachab Gold Mine, NamDeb and every major mining contractor operating in Namibia.
Because the journey from Namibia to Nelspruit is significant, our mining training is structured around multi-week combined packages — travel once on the Intercape bus from Windhoek and return home with two, three or four accredited certificates. Free accommodation in Nelspruit is provided for the full duration of every Namibia student’s stay, regardless of how many weeks they train.
Namibia’s mining sector is expanding. Husab Mine is one of the largest uranium operations in the world. Langer Heinrich restarted production in 2024. B2Gold Otjikoto continues to operate and develop underground resources. The upcoming Tumas uranium project is expected to begin construction. Every one of these operations requires machine operators and safety staff to hold formally accredited certificates. United Training Centre Nelspruit is the practical, accessible route to getting those certificates.
Namibia is one of Africa’s most important mining nations. The country produces uranium, diamonds, gold, copper, zinc and other minerals, with mining contributing significantly to national GDP and formal employment. The sector is dominated by large, internationally owned and managed operations that apply rigorous safety management systems — requiring all machine operators and safety personnel to hold formally accredited qualifications.
⚛️ HUSAB MINE — SWAKOP URANIUM / CGN — SWAKOPMUND
Husab Mine is one of the largest uranium mines in the world and one of the largest mining operations in Africa by scale. Operated by Swakop Uranium — majority owned by CGN (China General Nuclear Power Corporation) — Husab employs over 4,000 workers directly and a substantial contractor workforce. The mine applies an international safety management system consistent with global nuclear fuel cycle industry standards, requiring all machine operators to hold formally accredited Certificates of Competency and all safety personnel to hold accredited OHS qualifications.
Husab Mine operations use large-scale excavators, haul trucks (dump trucks), motor graders and front end loaders across the open-pit mining operation and haul road network. Certified operators are required for all of these machine types.
⚛️ RÖSSING URANIUM — CNUC — SWAKOPMUND
Rössing Uranium, one of the world’s longest continuously operating open-pit uranium mines, is owned by CNUC (China National Uranium Corporation). Rössing applies safety management standards inherited from its previous Rio Tinto ownership — internationally recognised standards requiring formally accredited operator and safety officer certification. Rössing’s extensive mining fleet includes excavators, haul trucks, graders and ancillary equipment. All operators must hold DoL-equivalent Certificates of Competency.
⚛️ LANGER HEINRICH URANIUM — PALADIN ENERGY — NEAR SWAKOPMUND
Langer Heinrich Uranium, operated by Paladin Energy, restarted production in early 2024 after a period of care and maintenance and is ramping up both production and workforce. As a publicly listed mining operation subject to ASX regulatory and insurance requirements, Paladin applies internationally aligned safety management systems requiring certified machine operators and safety officers across its expanding workforce.
🥇 B2GOLD OTJIKOTO MINE — NEAR OTAVI
B2Gold’s Otjikoto Mine is Namibia’s largest gold mine. Operated by Canadian miner B2Gold — known for strong safety and community relations standards — Otjikoto applies international mining safety management standards consistent with South African accreditation requirements. Both the open-pit and underground development phases require certified excavator operators, dump truck operators and qualified safety officers.
🥇 NAVACHAB GOLD MINE — QKR NAMIBIA — KARIBIB
Navachab Gold Mine near Karibib is Namibia’s longest-running gold mine. Operated by QKR Namibia, Navachab requires certified machine operators and safety officers consistent with South African mining industry standards.
💎 NAMDEV AND DEBMARINE NAMIBIA — DIAMOND OPERATIONS
NamDeb (Namdeb Holdings) and Debmarine Namibia — land and sea diamond mining operations — require safety officers, first aiders and certified equipment operators. Given NamDeb’s coastal and desert land mining operations, safety certification and machine operator competency are core compliance requirements.
⚛️ TUMAS URANIUM PROJECT — DEEP YELLOW — ERONGO REGION
The Tumas uranium project, operated by Deep Yellow Limited in the Erongo Region, is in advanced development and expected to begin construction in the 2026 to 2027 period. This project will require a significant certified workforce — excavator operators, dump truck operators, safety officers and first aiders — from the beginning of its construction phase. Getting certified now puts Namibia workers ahead of this employment opportunity.
WHY A SOUTH AFRICAN DOL CERTIFICATE — NOT A LOCAL NAMIBIAN CERTIFICATE
Every major Namibian mine listed above applies South African-aligned or internationally equivalent safety management systems. South African DoL Certificates of Competency — issued under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Driven Machinery Regulations — are the recognised standard that satisfies the certification requirements of all these employers. No local Namibian training provider issues certificates to this standard and breadth. United Training Centre Nelspruit does.
Mining Training Bundles — Travel Once from Namibia and Return With Multiple Certificates
Because the Intercape bus journey from Windhoek to Nelspruit is an overnight trip, every Namibia student is encouraged to combine courses into a multi-week bundle. You make the journey once and return home with two, three or four accredited certificates. Free accommodation in Nelspruit is provided for every week of your stay.
📦 MINING OPERATORS BUNDLE — 2 WEEKS | R9,500
Excavator Operator Certificate of Competency (Week 1) + Dump Truck Operator Certificate of Competency (Week 2)
This is the most popular bundle for Namibia mining sector workers. Excavators and haul trucks (dump trucks) are the two primary production machines at every open-pit mine in Namibia — Husab, Rössing, Langer Heinrich, B2Gold Otjikoto and Tumas. Both certificates are required under international mining safety management standards.
Who this bundle is for:
📦 SAFETY AND FIRST AID BUNDLE — 2 WEEKS + 2 DAYS | R14,500
Safety Officer Certificate (2 Weeks, R12,000) + First Aid Level 2 Certificate (2 Days, R2,500)
Every mine in Namibia requires designated safety officers and first aiders on every shift. This bundle delivers both qualifications in a single visit to Nelspruit. The safety officer course covers Namibian and South African OHS legal frameworks, risk assessment, incident investigation and safety management systems aligned with mine-site requirements.
Who this bundle is for:
📦 FULL MINING PACKAGE — 3 WEEKS | R14,500
Excavator Operator Certificate (Week 1) + Motor Grader Operator Certificate (Week 2) + Dump Truck Operator Certificate (Week 3)
Ideal for workers on mining haul road maintenance and mine infrastructure teams — where all three certificates are required. Motor graders are used on mining haul road maintenance at Husab, Rössing and B2Gold. This three-week package makes a Namibia student a certified operator on three of the four most important machines at a large open-pit mine.
COMPLETE MINING PROFESSIONAL PACKAGE — 4 WEEKS | R19,000
Safety Officer Certificate (Weeks 1–2, R12,000) + First Aid Level 2 (R2,500) + Excavator Operator Certificate (Week 3, R4,500) + First Aid Level 1 is covered within the safety officer course
The highest-value single visit for a Namibia mining sector worker. Return home as a qualified safety officer, a certified excavator operator and a Level 2 first aider — three credentials that cover every senior operational and safety role at Namibia’s major mines.
Each course is available individually for Namibia students who need a specific single certificate. All are also available as part of the multi-week bundles above.
⛏️ EXCAVATOR OPERATOR TRAINING — R4,500 | 1 WEEK
Hydraulic (360-degree) excavator operation. DoL Certificate of Competency. Full 5-day programme — theory and legislation on Days 1–2, practical machine operation on Days 3–4, formal competency assessment on Day 5. Rock breaking (hydraulic hammer) training included at no extra cost. The most in-demand single course for Namibia mining sector workers. Required at Husab, Rössing, Langer Heinrich, B2Gold and Tumas.
⛏️ DUMP TRUCK OPERATOR TRAINING — R5,000 | 1 WEEK PER MACHINE TYPE
ADT (articulated dump truck) and rigid dump truck — separate DoL Certificates of Competency available. Full haul cycle training including loaded travel on gradients, retarder use and tipping at height. Rigid dump trucks are the primary haul machine at large open-pit mines. ADTs are used on mining civil works and haul road construction. Required at all major Namibia mines.
⛏️ MOTOR GRADER OPERATOR TRAINING — R5,000 | 1 WEEK
Motor grader operation for mining haul road maintenance and mine infrastructure. Cross-fall, ditch cutting, shoulder shaping and road re-sheeting included. DoL Certificate of Competency. Mining haul road grader operators at Husab, Rössing and B2Gold are required to hold this certificate.
🦺 SAFETY OFFICER COURSE — R12,000 | 2 WEEKS
SAMTRAC-aligned OHS safety officer qualification covering South African and Namibian OHS legal frameworks, risk assessment, incident investigation, safety management systems and mine-specific hazard identification. Recognised by all major Namibia mining employers. Includes basic first aid principles — combine with the standalone First Aid Level 2 course for the full Safety and First Aid Bundle.
🩹 FIRST AID LEVEL 2 — R2,500 | 2 DAYS
The minimum first aid level required for designated first aiders at medium to large workplaces including mine sites. Covers advanced patient assessment, oxygen therapy, spinal injuries, chemical exposure and burns — directly relevant to uranium, gold and diamond mining environments. DoL-recognised certificate valid 3 years.

What Namibia Mining Workers Say About Training at United Training Centre Nelspruit
"I work for a contractor at Husab Mine near Swakopmund. When Husab conducted a safety audit of all contractors on site, my employer was told that all excavator and haul truck operators needed DoL Certificates of Competency — our informal on-the-job training was not sufficient. I was sent to United Training Centre in Nelspruit. I took the Intercape from Windhoek on a Friday evening, arrived in Johannesburg Saturday morning and connected to Nelspruit by Sunday afternoon. The free accommodation was ready when I arrived. I completed the excavator course in Week 1 and the dump truck course in Week 2. Both practical assessments were challenging but I was well prepared by the time Day 5 came around. I came back to Windhoek the following Saturday with two DoL Certificates of Competency. Husab confirmed my placement the following week. My employer now sends all new operators to United Training Centre before they start on the mine site. The 2-week Mining Operators Bundle is exactly what Husab Mine requires — and the free accommodation makes the total cost manageable for workers coming all the way from Namibia."
