Grader Training Rustenburg
CETA-Accredited Motor Grader Operator Certificate 2026
United Training Centre’s Rustenburg campus offers CETA-accredited motor grader operator training, following SAQA Unit Standard 262735 (Operate a Grader, NQF Level 2), for students across the platinum belt.
Rustenburg sits at the heart of the Bushveld Igneous Complex, home to some of the richest platinum group metal reserves on earth. Impala Platinum operates a 16-shaft mining complex here, and following its roughly R14 billion acquisition of Royal Bafokeng Platinum in 2023 — now Impala Bafokeng — the company continues to invest in the area, with feasibility studies for the Styldrift II expansion expected through 2026. Anglo American Platinum’s Bafokeng-area operations add to the region’s mining footprint. Every one of these operations depends on well-graded haul roads to move ore, personnel and equipment safely.
Free accommodation is available for students travelling from outside Rustenburg for the full training week. Call us on +27 81 795 8133 to enrol.
Grader vs TLB — Which Certificate Do You Actually Need?
🛣️ MOTOR GRADER
🚜 TRACTOR LOADER BACKHOE (TLB)
WHICH ONE DO YOU NEED?
If your work is shaping and maintaining a haul road or site surface — you need the grader certificate. If your work involves digging trenches or loading — you need the TLB. Mining contractors on the platinum belt often need both; you can complete Grader Training and TLB Training back to back at our Rustenburg campus.
The OHS Act’s Driven Machinery Regulations require all grader operators to hold a formal Certificate of Competency aligned to SAQA Unit Standard 262735 before operating a grader on any site.
⛏️ IMPALA PLATINUM'S 16-SHAFT COMPLEX
Impala Platinum operates a large 16-shaft mining complex just outside Rustenburg, extracting ore from the Merensky and UG2 reefs. Mining operations of this scale depend on well-maintained haul roads to move ore, waste rock and equipment safely and efficiently, requiring certified grader operators.
⛏️ IMPALA BAFOKENG AND THE STYLDRIFT EXPANSION
Following Implats’ roughly R14 billion acquisition of Royal Bafokeng Platinum in 2023, the renamed Impala Bafokeng operation continues to invest in the region, with feasibility studies for the Styldrift II expansion underway through 2026. Expansion projects of this scale generate sustained demand for certified plant operators, including grader operators for haul road and site infrastructure work.
⛏️ ANGLO AMERICAN PLATINUM'S BUSHVELD OPERATIONS
Anglo American Platinum’s operations in the Bafokeng area and across the wider Bushveld Complex similarly require certified grader operators for haul road maintenance and site access.
🏗️ MINING CONTRACTORS AND CIVIL SUPPORT SERVICES
The dense concentration of platinum mining around Rustenburg supports a large base of mining contractors and civil support companies, all of whom require CETA-accredited grader operators for haul road, yard and access-road work.

What Rustenburg Students Say About Grader Training at United Training Centre
"I worked as a general labourer for a contractor doing haul road maintenance near one of the platinum mines outside Rustenburg. When the contractor picked up more haul road work, they needed a second certified grader operator quickly. I enrolled at United Training Centre Rustenburg, and within the week I had my CETA certificate and was straight onto the crew maintaining haul roads on-site."
