Grader Training Germiston
CETA-Accredited Motor Grader Operator Certificate 2026
United Training Centre’s Germiston campus offers CETA-accredited motor grader operator training, following SAQA Unit Standard 262735 (Operate a Grader, NQF Level 2), for students across Ekurhuleni and the wider East Rand.
Germiston sits at the centre of South Africa’s freight rail network — home to the country’s largest railway hub — and 2026 has brought real change to that sector: Transnet has signed access agreements bringing 11 private freight operators onto the national network, including Traxtion’s R3.4 billion investment for its 2026 entry, as part of a push to lift rail freight volumes from around 160 million tonnes in 2025 to 250 million tonnes by 2030. Rail expansion of this scale means sustained yard, siding and access-road maintenance work — and steady demand for certified grader operators.
Ekurhuleni itself contributes 23.3% of Gauteng’s provincial economic output and manufacturing is the metro’s second-largest sector, at 21% of city GVA. Call us on +27 81 795 8133 to enrol.
Grader vs TLB — Which Certificate Do You Actually Need?
🛣️ MOTOR GRADER
🚜 TRACTOR LOADER BACKHOE (TLB)
WHICH ONE DO YOU NEED?
If your work is shaping and maintaining a road, yard or rail-adjacent surface — you need the grader certificate. If your work involves digging trenches or loading — you need the TLB. Many Ekurhuleni manufacturing and logistics employers need both; you can complete Grader Training and TLB Training back to back at our Germiston campus.
The OHS Act’s Driven Machinery Regulations require all grader operators to hold a formal Certificate of Competency aligned to SAQA Unit Standard 262735 before operating a grader on any site.
🚂 GERMISTON'S RAIL HUB AND THE 2026 FREIGHT REFORM
Germiston is home to South Africa’s largest railway hub, where the country’s major freight lines converge. Transnet’s 2026 network-access reforms — 11 private operators now onboarded, targeting 250 million tonnes of freight by 2030 — mean sustained investment in rail-adjacent infrastructure, including yard and siding surface maintenance that depends on certified grader operators.
🏭 EKURHULENI'S INDUSTRIAL TRIANGLE
Ekurhuleni’s manufacturing core — enclosed by the R21, R24 and N12 highways and including the Jet Park, Isando and Spartan industrial complexes around OR Tambo International Airport — requires certified grader operators for yard maintenance, access roads and site preparation across its dense concentration of factories and warehouses.
🏗️ CIVIL AND ROAD-BUILDING CONTRACTORS
Civil contractors working on Ekurhuleni’s road, yard and site-development projects require certified grader operators to shape and finish surfaces to specification.
🏛️ MUNICIPAL ROADS MAINTENANCE
The City of Ekurhuleni’s roads department maintains an extensive network of surfaced and gravel roads across the metro, requiring certified grader operators for ongoing maintenance work.

What Germiston Students Say About Grader Training at United Training Centre
"I was doing yard labour for a contractor that maintains access roads around one of the rail sidings near Germiston. When the contractor picked up more work as the freight network expanded, they needed a second certified grader operator. I enrolled at United Training Centre, and within the week I had my CETA certificate and was straight onto the crew. The training was hands-on from day three, and the camber-shaping practice on day four was exactly what our actual job looks like."
