Stripping Overburden and Managing Stockpiles — What Bulldozer Work Looks Like at a Coal Mine

Before coal can be extracted at an open-cast operation, the overburden — the layers of soil and rock above the seam — has to be stripped and moved. A bulldozer does that heavy pushing work, and continues to be used for shaping and levelling stockpiles once material is extracted.

Bulldozer work at a mine covers overburden stripping ahead of extraction, stockpile shaping and management, and general site levelling as pit configurations change over the life of the operation.

The OHS Act’s Driven Machinery Regulations require bulldozer operators to hold a Certificate of Competency before operating on any site.

⛏️ OPEN-CAST COAL MINES ACROSS THE WITBANK/MIDDELBURG BELT

🏗️ BULK EARTHWORKS AND CIVIL CONTRACTORS
