LHD Scoop Operator Training Nelspruit
Accredited Course at Our Nelspruit Campus

United Training Centre offers accredited LHD Scoop Operator training at its Nelspruit campus for R6,500. The course covers load-haul-dump technique in confined underground spaces — moving blasted ore from the stope face to ore passes and tramming points, essential work at Barberton’s Fairview, Sheba and New Consort underground gold mines. Free accommodation is available for students travelling from outside Nelspruit. Call +27 81 795 8133 to enrol.

Once a blast breaks ore loose in a stope at Barberton’s underground gold mines, someone has to move it — that’s LHD (load-haul-dump) scoop work. These compact, low-profile machines are built to manoeuvre in confined underground drives and tunnels where nothing larger fits.

United Training Centre trains job-seekers in Nelspruit for an accredited LHD Scoop Operator qualification. The course costs R6,500 and covers load-haul-dump technique, manoeuvring in confined underground spaces, and safe tramming procedure.

Training happens at our Nelspruit campus. Free accommodation is available for students travelling in from outside the immediate area. Call us on +27 81 795 8133 to enrol.

Moving Ore After the Blast — What LHD Scoop Work Looks Like Underground

After a blast fires and the area is cleared safe, broken ore has to be loaded and hauled out to ore passes or tramming points before the next production cycle can begin. The LHD is purpose-built for this — a low, compact loader that can turn and manoeuvre in tunnels far narrower than anything a surface loader could work in.

LHD scoop work underground covers loading broken ore at the stope face, hauling it to designated ore passes or tram points, and dumping efficiently to keep the production cycle moving without delay.

Operating heavy machinery in confined underground spaces carries real risk, which is why mines require certified operators under the Mine Health and Safety Act.

⛏️ BARBERTON MINES — FAIRVIEW, SHEBA, NEW CONSORT

Ongoing ore tramming across these narrow-reef gold mines requires certified LHD scoop operators.

🪨 OTHER UNDERGROUND MINING OPERATIONS

Mines across South Africa’s broader gold and hard-rock sector also require certified LHD operators.

🏗️ TUNNELLING AND UNDERGROUND CIVIL CONTRACTORS

Some tunnelling and underground civil projects also use LHD skills for confined-space material handling.

Underground tunnels and drives, especially in narrow-reef mines like Barberton’s, are far tighter than surface haul roads. An LHD’s low profile and tight turning radius let it work in spaces no surface loader could enter.

Yes, many students training for underground work combine two or more of these courses, since mines often want operators flexible across different parts of the production cycle.
