Welcome to United Training Centre
South Africa's Most Trusted Accredited Training Provider
We have been building South Africa’s workforce since 2009 — and we are just getting started. United Training Centre is one of South Africa’s most trusted accredited training providers, with five fully equipped campuses across Mpumalanga, Gauteng, North West and Limpopo. In 17 years we have certified more than 15,000 students in machine operation, artisan trades, safety management and professional driving. Today we are launching our blog — and this first post is our story, our purpose and everything you need to know about training with us.
Who We Are and Why We Exist
United Training Centre was founded in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga in 2009 with a single campus and a clear mission: to give South African workers the certified skills that employers actually demand.
The Mpumalanga Lowveld is the engine room of southern Africa’s economy. Coal mines, platinum operations, timber and citrus farms, the N4 corridor freight route connecting Johannesburg to Mozambique — all of this industrial activity requires a constant supply of skilled, certified operators, artisans and drivers. We saw the gap between what employers needed and what the existing training market was providing, and we built something better.
Seventeen years later we operate five training campuses across four provinces. We have trained miners, welders, truck drivers, safety officers, forklift operators, electricians and mine managers. We have certified workers who have gone on to earn salaries they never thought possible. We have given people who had no formal qualification the accredited certificate that changed everything.
That is why United Training Centre exists — and why we are not done yet.
Accredited
Our accreditations — TETA (Transport Education and Training Authority), CETA (Construction Education and Training Authority), MERSETA (Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services SETA), QCTO (Quality Council for Trades and Occupations) and MQA (Mining Qualifications Authority) — mean that every certificate we issue is nationally recognised and registered on the National Qualifications Framework under SAQA. When you train with us, your certificate is not just a piece of paper. It is a professionally verified qualification accepted by every major employer in South Africa.
Job Placement Support
After training, we assist with CV preparation, interview readiness, and employer connections to help you move quickly into employment.
Free Accommodation
We provide safe, comfortable free accommodation for students during training, helping you focus on learning without worrying about travel or living costs.
What We Train — 50+ Accredited Courses Across Six Categories
We offer more than 50 accredited courses across six training categories. Here is what we do — and who each category is for.
Our earth moving operator training covers TLB (Tractor Loader Backhoe), Front End Loader, Excavator, ADT Dump Truck, 777 Dump Truck and Grader. These are 7-day intensive practical courses that produce TETA-certified operators ready for construction sites and mine operations from day one. Earth moving operators are in constant demand across South Africa — our TLB alone has placed graduates on sites across Mpumalanga, Gauteng and Limpopo.
From the Forklift Training Nelspruit course — our most popular individual course, with a 5-day turnaround and a certificate that costs only R1,700 — to the Tower Crane course at R10,500, our lifting equipment training covers every machine in the materials handling sector. Forklift, Tower Crane, Mobile Crane, Overhead Crane, Telehandler, Reach Stacker and Winch Operator. Every certificate is TETA-accredited and compliant with the Driven Machinery Regulations.
South Africa needs skilled artisans. The gap between qualified and unqualified Red Seal artisans is enormous — both in employment access and in monthly salary. We train Boilermakers, TIG Welders, CO2 Welders, Arc Welders, Aluminum Welders and Double Coded Welders. Our MERSETA-accredited workshops produce artisans who are work-ready and trade-test eligible. For those who want to formalise years of experience, we also offer Trade Test Preparation — the pathway to your Red Seal certificate.
South Africa’s OHS Act and the Construction Regulations 2014 create a continuous demand for qualified safety officers, first aiders, fire wardens and height workers. We offer First Aid Level 1, 2 and 3, Fire Fighting, Working at Heights, Fall Protection, HIRA, Safety Officer, COMSOC 1, 2 and 3 (Construction Health and Safety Officer) and Occupational Health training. CETA and MQA accredited.
South Africa has one of the worst professional driver shortages in Africa. We address this directly — training Learners License candidates, Code 8 light vehicle drivers, Code 10 rigid truck drivers and Code 14 articulated truck (superlink) drivers. Our Code 14 Driving License Nelspruit programme is one of our flagship courses, preparing candidates for both the DLTC test and the PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) required for commercial driving.
Our engineering programmes are the most advanced in our portfolio. Diesel Mechanic, Fitter and Turner, Electrical Artisan, Millwright, Motor Mechanic and Plumbing — all MERSETA-accredited. We also offer Competent B (Mine Overseer) and Competent A (Mine Manager) examination preparation under the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996 — the highest operational qualifications in South African mining.
Our Five Training Campuses — Strategically Located Where You Work
We have positioned our campuses in the five most important industrial and mining corridors in South Africa. Wherever you are, there is a United Training Centre near enough to reach — and close enough to make free accommodation unnecessary if you are local.
32 Bell Street, Nelspruit Central — Our founding campus. Serving the Lowveld’s mining, agriculture, forestry, logistics and construction base. Accessible from White River, Hazyview, Barberton, Malelane, Bushbuckridge, Komatipoort and the entire N4 corridor. Our most active campus — where it all started. 📞 +27 81 795 8133 | +27 73 260 7172
107 High Street, Germiston Central — Gauteng is the industrial heartland of South Africa. We placed our Germiston campus in the East Rand — accessible from Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni, and the massive construction and manufacturing base of the East Rand. If you are in Gauteng, this is your campus.
Serving Mpumalanga’s coal mining belt — Coal country. The power station corridor from Witbank to Middelburg feeds Eskom’s generation capacity. Mining operators and artisans from Exxaro, Anglo American and independent coal contractors train at our Witbank campus.
The commercial and mining hub of Limpopo Province. From Tzaneen to Phalaborwa, from Mokopane to Musina — our Polokwane campus serves the full Limpopo interior.
66 Steen Street, Rustenburg Central — The platinum belt. Impala Platinum, Sibanye-Stillwater, Anglo American Platinum and their networks of contractors — all in Rustenburg. We train the mine operators, artisans and safety officers who keep the platinum industry running.
Free accommodation is available at all five campuses for students travelling from outside the local area. This is not a token offer — it is a real service that makes United Training Centre accessible to workers from communities that would otherwise have no affordable access to this level of accredited training.
What Happens After You Qualify — Jobs, Salaries and Career Paths
We do not just train people. We change career trajectories. Here is what qualification means in practice for the courses we offer.
A qualified Forklift Operator earns R8,000 to R14,000 per month at entry level. A Red Seal Welder earns R18,000 to R35,000 per month — significantly more than an unqualified welder doing the same work. A Code 14 superlink driver earns R12,000 to R35,000+ per month depending on experience and routes. A Competent B-qualified Mine Overseer earns R32,000 to R55,000 per month. A Competent A Mine Manager earns R80,000 to R180,000 per month.
These are not aspirational numbers. They are what our graduates actually earn after completing their training and securing employment with the certificate we issue.
Every qualification United Training Centre issues is accredited, verified and accepted by every major employer in the relevant sector. From the smallest Nelspruit warehouse that needs a forklift driver to Anglo American needing a Competent A Mine Manager — our certificates open those doors.
We also provide active job placement support after graduation. We connect graduates with employers who are actively hiring, assist with CV preparation and provide direct referrals to companies we have ongoing relationships with. Many of our graduates find employment within 2 to 6 weeks of completing their course.
Your career does not end when you collect your certificate. It begins there.
Why South Africans Choose United Training Centre Over Every Other Option
There are many training providers in South Africa. Here is what makes us different — and why our pass rate is 98% while the national average is considerably lower.
WE TRAIN ON REAL MACHINES FROM DAY ONE
You do not spend your first week in a classroom watching videos. At United Training Centre students operate real TLBs, real forklifts, real welding equipment and real articulated trucks from the first day of practical training. The competency you develop in our yard is the same competency you demonstrate on your first day of employment. No simulator. No theory-only weeks. Real machines, real skills.
OUR INSTRUCTORS HAVE DONE THE JOB
Every instructor at United Training Centre has worked in the industry they teach. Our forklift instructors have operated forklifts in warehouses and on mine sites. Our welding instructors hold Red Seal certificates and have coded under pressure. Our driving instructors have driven long haul and understand what the DLTC examiner is looking for. You cannot teach what you have not done.
SMALLER CLASSES MEAN MORE MACHINE TIME
The biggest reason candidates fail operator tests across South Africa is insufficient time on the machine. Other providers run classes of 20 to 30 students to maximise revenue — meaning each student gets very little hands-on time before assessment. We keep our classes small so that every student gets the machine time they need to reach genuine competency. That is why our pass rate is 98%.
FREE ACCOMMODATION REMOVES THE BIGGEST BARRIER
For workers in smaller towns and rural areas, the biggest barrier to accessing training is not the course fee — it is the cost of accommodation in Nelspruit, Germiston or Rustenburg for one to four weeks. We remove that barrier entirely. Our free accommodation service makes United Training Centre genuinely accessible to workers from every community across our regions.
WE DO NOT CERTIFY UNTIL YOU ARE READY
Some training providers push students through to assessment before they are fully prepared — to keep class turnover high and revenue flowing. We do not. We assess each student’s competency during training and only take them to formal assessment when we are confident they will pass. Our 98% first-time pass rate is the proof.
